Tolången nature reserve
Tolången nature reserve is inaccessible at the end of the road in Gaddstigen's chronopark.
The nature reserve is located on the southern shore of Tolången and is dominated by deciduous mixed forest where aspen and spruce dominate with elements of pine, birch, linden, oak and maple. The ground is relatively difficult to access and to the southeast there is also a scree with plumb surfaces. The hardwood trees are a remnant from the more light-open forests of previous periods that used to be grazed with cattle. The flora is rich in most of the reserve with several species belonging to a more demanding grove flora.
In the area there are also many unusual species of lichens and mosses that grow mainly on old slow growing deciduous trees and aspen. Lung lichen and asp feather moss can be mentioned.
Large coarse and wide-crowned oaks are rare in the coniferous forest and in this case as a result of the state's chronohunters having been considerate against the trees when farming the forest. In collaboration with Sveaskog (2008), all the coarse, wide-crowned oaktrees in the western edge of the reserve have been freed. This is an area to enjoy for the really well-wisher and experienced hiker.
