Description of training content
The course is coordinated and arranged by Kinda Education Centre.
Know how to work with the outdoor environment as a classroom and teaching media and how to work with experience-based learning and sensory awareness as a support for learning in school.
Knowledge about the theoretic basis of outdoor educational pedagogy, research and literature.
To develop personal and social skills through outdoor activities and lessons and to understand the health benefit gained by taking learning into the outdoors.
To have understanding of outdoor learning in formal and non-formal education in Europe. Knowledge about outdoor pedagogy in a cross-cultural perspective.
To develop a personal activity plan: How to put new knowledge into action back home and how to support the school or organisational development in the field of outdoor learning.
The main methods will be through practical training, cooperative work, various activities, individual and group reflections as well as discussions. The content is thematic and interdisciplinary and based on ”learning by doing” combined with “reflection upon action”. Through experiencing by heart, hand and head meet the three key parts of Outdoor Education (Personal and social development, Outdoor activities and Environmental education). Positive athmosphere, exchange and fun is a part of the learing process during the week. The course will take place mainly outdoors close to nature, in the rural as well as the urban landscape.
Before the course – Preparation
Contribute to the international social evening, with something representing your country/region.
Answer to the request to set your professional goal for the training, to be communicated with the participants and course leaders.
Prepare a presentation (use the templet which will be sent to you) about your workplace /school, and if applicable the experience of teaching outside the classroom.
After the course – Follow-up
Course evaluation at the end of the course, and given as feedback to the participants. After the course, participants will be asked to reflect on what happened when they returned home and how the course influenced their teaching and school/workplace. This will be shared by Information and communications technology (ICT)
The course provider support after the course activities, eg. Professional exchange in the field.
Training, help to find partners for future school projects and job shadowing as well as contact with universities for Outdoor Education.
Duration – Time Period
We arrange pick up service in Linköping at 17.00 Sunday. The course starts at 18.00 Sunday and end 16.00 at Friday. There are no possibilities to arrange earlier departure. Please add time for travelling.
Training Activities – Schedule
The programme has an experiential approach, to learn by experience, to reflect upon it and to be creative.
Everyday we will reflect up on
What we have done, what was the purpose and how we can use this back home/professionally, how we can adapt it to our professional life, schools- and learning conditions in Europe.
The first four days’ program is held in a rural context at the lake, forest and meadows and the last day in the urban city.
Day by Day
Day 1: Pick up service in Linköping and arrival at course venue in Björkfors/Rimforsa. Get to know each other and the place. Introduction and expectations for the week using outdoor methods.
Day 2: Games as a tool for ice-breakers. Moving in the landscape and taking part in learning workshops on the way. Workshops on how to teach different school subjects outdoors, learning by doing and reflecting upon the action. European social evening.
Day 3: We continue to explore nature in workshops bringing history alive. Visit nature reserve Trollegater caves. Get to know Sweden from different perspectives on the way. Outdoor education theory. In the evening, professional exchange by participants.
Day 4: Visit Swedish primary school, children and teachers in education out-of-doors. Lunch at school. Thematic creative day, a toolbox for teaching all school subjects outside the classroom, method designed for larger groups of students. Outdoor cooking. Canoe journey on the lake.
Day 5: Philosophy and theory of Outdoor Environmental Education and the impact on the health issue. Games as tools for learning by outdoor lecture and connected practice. Outdoor leadership workshop, learn to optimize the leading of groups outdoors. In the evening by the outdoor fire.
Day 6: Practical workshops and how to use the environment for learning. Workshop on individual action plan for managing change and impact based on the training. Retrospect of the week and evaluation of the course. Closing ceremony and receiving of certificates.

Who is the course for?
School and pre-schools: Teachers at level pre-primary, primary, secondary and special education.
Other organisations: Staff working in educational organisations taking people out.
Place and costs
The course is in the south of Sweden, in Kinda Municipality close to the city Linköping. Nearest airport is Linköping City Airport.
Course fee: 700 Euro, cost for food and accomodation will be added, about 620 Euro.
The course is residential, accommodation and food will be arranged by the organizer.
