American festival June 2009

The “American Festival" starts with Peter Cassel-days June 13-14, 2009. During the festival a lot of activities will take place in the municipalities of Kinda and Ydre in the southern part of the Östergötland province.The “American Festival" is something of a homecoming week focused on all Americans of Swedish descent and their relatives I Sweden, as well as the inhabitants of Kinda and Ydre and visitors interested in cultural events.

The idea of this week originates from the Peter Cassel and Andrew Peterson societies, the municipalities of Kinda and Ydre, businesses and associations in the area. We are getting ready for a “cultural exchange week" with a Swedish and a American mix that will form lasting friendships.

During the week there will be a number of activities, such as:
· concerts
· singalong evenings
· theatre, musicals
· open markets and culinary experiences
· exhibitions
· seminars
· guided tours by bus and boat
· traditional Midsummer celebration

The events will be in both Swedish and English.A possibility to search for your roots is available through a visit to the “House of Emigrants" in Växjö.We hope you will spend your vacation 2009 in Sweden and visit the “American Festival" in southern Östergötland.
